Throughout this first nine weeks of school for the 2020-21 academic year, Beaver County Career & Technology students have been attending their elected programs online, regardless if they are a new or returning student. Students, parents, and other educators have all asked, “How are you going to teach career and technical education virtually?” Thankfully, here at BCCTC, our teachers, professionals from their own respective industries, are creative and have come up with some incredible ways for their students to get engaged with this new learning platform. Our second featured teacher from BCCTC is Ms. Nicole DeMark, Graphic Arts & Printing Instructor. Ms. DeMark wants to make sure that all of her students know that each and every assignment she gives to them, regardless of their level, is in one way or another a ‘building block’ for the Graphics & Printing Industries. Seniors are working on and can look forward to:
- – The development of their online portfolio to highlight their own designs and work
- – The creation of their own websites and blogs to teach them the importance of creating their own ‘brand’
- – Understanding and the realization needed regarding cyber securities when posting their work online
- – And most importantly, studying for the Adobe Certified Associate Certification
Sophomores and Juniors? They are just beginning their understanding of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Eventually, they will also learn about Spark and After Effects in the future months.
Ms. DeMark says, “I want my students to learn how to communicate effectively to someone in this industry and to a client that they work for when hired to create a design. And not only will students learn about design, students will be exposed to the preparation of the file before going to print and what needs to happen before, during and after the printing process occurs.”
Projects the students will look forward to in this program include:
- – Digital Photography
- – Large Format Printing
- – Vinyl/Screen Printing
- – Binding and Finishing
- – Graphic Design
- – Hydro Dipping
Graphic Arts & Design students, enjoy wowing Ms. DeMark with your creativity! Looking forward to seeing those online portfolios too!
